Hopes and Dreams

Derek has lost a lot of his mobility as he has become older. This has caused two major surgeries on his hips and back due to contractures, lack of muscle strength, and scoliosis. We are hoping to prevent this from happening to his younger brother who has the same disability. Dylan will turn 9 this year and loves his brother. Wants to be just like him, copies him all the time. They enjoy biking together, video games, music, horseback riding, and so much more. As Dylan becomes older he may have to go through some of the same things his brother has in the last few years. This is what we are hoping to prevent. We have found a piece of equipment called the Quadricisor that we believe can help the boys gain strength and prevent this loss and hopefully gain mobility instead.

Here are two You Tube videos of others using this equipment. It’s amazing!

We are going to continue to pray that they stay strong and healthy and with your help we can make sure that they have the equipment they need to fight their muscles from tightening and giving up on them. The Quadricisor is that for Derek and Dylan, I have seen many pieces of equipment and have not seen anything that would do what this can do. As they age their muscles and bodies become weaker. We want to prolong this and keep them stable and hope for all the gains possible. As they age the connection between their brain and body becomes weaker. The Quadrisicer keeps that connection strong. It’s brain training, it’s muscle memory training. We are hoping to get one each for the boys because it will be adjusted individually for them.

We are also hoping for a home that will allow them to grow, live, and gain independence. One with widened doors and hallways so the boys can enter and move around without hitting walls with their wheelchair. Modified kitchen so they can be more involved and updated appliances so the boys can gain more independence. A modified bathroom to allow even greater independence and ease the difficult task of bathing, dressing, washing. A ramp if needed and hopefully a covered parking area so they can enter the van without being subject to the weather.

No dream is to big or small……….
